Let’s Talk Resolutions

It’s the time of the year to save big on a gym membership! I do have a goal to get more fit, but I won’t be joining a gym this time around. I’d also like to sleep better and make dinner more often, but I probably won’t do those either.

There’s just one goal I’m passionate about this year: I’d like to eliminate plastics from my lifestyle and business as much as possible.

I’m proud to say that most of what I create and ship can be composted or recycled. My shipping tubes are made from 70-100% post consumer product. And I always re-use materials like packing pillows and peanuts. (In fact, I’ve never had to purchase these fillers because they’re used so frequently by my suppliers and Amazon.)

This year I’m taking it to the next level!

I have MAJOR insomnia when I’m creating new products. My brain goes into overdrive and I can’t shut it down. So the other “night” at about 4am, I had given up trying to sleep and was watching “Broken” on Netflix. The episode on plastics was so upsetting!

I decided that I need to do better.

I’m phasing out plastics from my packaging. I’ll keep re-using fillers that come from my suppliers, but I won’t be purchasing any more #4 or #5 recyclable plastics (poly bags). Once my current inventory is gone, I’ll be switching to compostable paper and cellophane.

I’m also discontinuing sales of water bottle labels. Until these types of bottles are recycled more efficiently, I won’t encourage the use of them.

Additionally, I want to help you, my customers, in your efforts to protect the environment. To that end, I’ve created a recycling guide to my products and packaging. I’m going back and forth on whether I’ll print it to include in my packages — will using an additional piece of paper yield better results, or just be an additional piece of paper? What do you think?

Either way, the guide is posted here: https://melindabryantparty.com/recycling-guide

And, as always, please reach out to me if you have any questions.
